Singles Day is the big ‘treat yourself’ day of the year and the world’s biggest shopping day. For you, this means that you have a new sales day to look forward to in November: Singles Day on 11/11 – just 16 days before Black Friday! Singles Day is always celebrated on the 11th day of the 11th month of the year, i.e. November 11. And it is simply the repetition of the number “1” that can explain why it was chosen that date. The four 1s symbolize being alone and being single. Originally, Singles Day (or Guanggun Jie, as the day is called in China) was about breaking away from loneliness and the monotony of life as a single person. At least that is what four students from Nanjing University in China reportedly discussed in 1993.

In 2017, Singles Day became widely available to Danish consumers when a handful of large stores set out to mark Singles Day. Some webshops celebrated the concept in 2016, but the support from stores was greater in 2017. And year by year the concept has only grown bigger.
